The Informer logo v2

The Informer is mercury bay’s local newspaper.   it is weekly and it is focused on the news and people of Mercury Bay though its distribution reaches from Thames to north of Colville.

It is a free paper relying totally on advertising for its existence but not its purpose.  Somehow the paramount purpose must remain - to connect people, build community, create a lively interest in community matters and in some things, uplift people. That is the reason we exist.

Our circulation is increasing, and we believe by December it will be a little over 10,000.

We have a number of regular columns as in weekly or monthly - fishing report, Great Nosh with Little Dosh, Shifting Focus (business), Stan’s Stuff (life issues), Westpac helicopter, Fire Siren, Local Flavour (food and gardens), and Coastguard.

We strive to look after our advertisers with good editorial to encourage readership and connection.

This paper is locally owned and locally run in every way. It is printed in Whakatane
